On Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at 04:53:10 PM EST, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake devastated the country of Haiti. It is being considered the largest disaster in the western hemisphere in 200 years. Most of Port-au-Prince (the capitol city of Haiti) was destroyed, and there has been tremendous loss of life and property throughout the country. Clean water is in short supply, the medical needs of the wounded are overwhelming, and those who survived have nowhere to go. It is truly a desperate situation. But when there is generosity, there is hope.
Cyrus International is acting swiftly to bring help to the hurting. We are fortunate to have tremendous relationships with non-profit organizations that have a long history on the ground in Haiti as well as a wealth of experience in large-scale crisis response. It is through these partnerships that we are able to engage the need in Haiti. Having served together with these organizations during hurricanes Katrina and Gustav, we have come to value their integrity and wisdom very much during times of crisis. That gives us great confidence that you can trust that your generosity will be handled with integrity to help the people of Haiti.
Through our partners Samaritan’s Purse, Love a Child, and Healing Place Church we are able to expedite the delivery of critical resources to those in need. The most critical of all the needs are medical supplies, water, and shelter. From Tylenol to x-ray machines, we intend to ship several containers to Haiti for immediate use by our doctors and surgeons who are already on the ground and waiting for supplies. It’s important that we get these medical supplies on the ground quickly and in the hands of skilled medical professionals while there is still time.
